By Often at the top of any Best Batman Comic list, The Long Halloween is now getting the animated movie treatment. Releasing in two parts, the 1996 comic from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale pits Batman against a mysterious serial killer who only strikes on holidays, and features run-ins with some of Gotham’s most notorious villains.
In the first trailer just released today, the Caped Crusader confers with familiar faces in Harvey Dent and James Gordon as the seedy underbelly of Gotham’s mafia families find themselves victimized. Covering the course of a year, Batman’s investigation finds his path crossing with old foes and a search into the mind of the psychotic.
The film is written by Tim Sheridan and directed by Chris Palmer (who both worked together on last year’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow)and features a stellar cast, led by Jensen Ackles, Josh Duhamel, Jack Quaid, Billy Burke, and the late Naya Rivera.
While there’s no official release date at this time, part one of The Long Halloween is expected later this summer to be shortly followed by part two sometime in the fall (meanwhile, The Batman has been pushed back to March 2022) The end of the trailer notes the film will be available via digital and Blu-Ray, but no indication of release via streaming has been confirmed.
