Warner Bros. announced yesterday that a 4K3D cut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be debuting in China when cinemas reopen. While the coronavirus pandemic is still an ongoing issue, China is already planning for ways to revive its film industry once it is able to do so. With international films being a big hit in the country, Harry Potter is a pretty obvious choice to get people back in theaters.
This might sound like jumping the gun a bit, but China hasn’t seen new cases of the coronavirus in weeks. With officials working tirelessly to contain the spread of this disease, it seems like everything is a go to start returning life to normal. Fans on Weibo (China’s Twitter-like social network) are excited and WB is clearly going to make bank re-releasing this classic series.
While a release date is unconfirmed, a Chinese ticketing website lists The Sorcerer’s Stone for an April 30 opening. That would put it in prime position for Labor Day weekend. WB will probably bring this release stateside in the future, but we’re still not sure of when this pandemic will subside.
