A Knights of the Old Republic Star Wars film is allegedly in the works

BioWare games tapped as potential source material

In a report for BuzzFeed, Kate Aurthur cites "three sources close to" an allegedly in-development film adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic, the classic BioWare role-playing game.

The script for the film is coming along from Laeta Kalogridis, whose other writing credits include Shutter Island and this year's Alita: Battle Angel. Kalogridis is also known for her work producing James Cameron's Avatar, as well as Netflix's sci-fi series Altered Carbon

Although representatives for Kalogridis, as well as Disney and Lucasfilm, haven't confirmed anything regarding the Old Republic film, rumblings of a screenplay coming together would line up with comments made by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy during last month's Star Wars Celebration:

With so little to go off of this is best taken with a grain of salt for now. Scripts are written all the time casually discarded, but Kennedy's comments and the general love for BioWare's games would indicate that this may go somewhere. Though it seems unlikely any film set during the Old Republic would be direct adaptations of the games, whose stories fall mostly under the non-canon "Legends" banner. Nonetheless, the idea of a film (or films!) set during an ancient Jedi/Sith conflict is an appealing prospect, and maybe a good jolt for a franchise suffering from bloat and fatigue.
