Paramount as announced plans for acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols to write and direct a third film in their A Quiet Place franchise, as it now seems to be becoming.
Details on the third film are minimal, and whether the story will be a direct continuation from A Quiet Place Part II remains to be seen. The third film is said to be “based on an original idea” of John Krasinski’s, who contributed to the original film’s script, and wrote the screenplay for the sequel. Plans for a third film have been known for some time now, though Nichols’ involvement with the project would seem to indicate that the gears are starting to seriously turn on production.
Nichols’ last film was 2016’s Loving, the true story of Mildred and Richard Loving, which saw Ruth Negga nominated as the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Oscars. Nichols also released Midnight Special that year, the sci-fi road movie starring Michael Shannon and Adam Driver.
Meanwhile, A Quiet Place Part II remains one of the first casualties of the coronavirus-induced delays and postponements that hit Hollywood. The sequel was originally set for a March release this year, before being delayed multiple times to April 23, 2021. After that, Jeff Nichols’ contribution to the Quiet Placeverse (you can use that) is set to hit theaters some time in 2022.
