Well, that was fast! Only two weeks ago, we were hearing plans for a localized release of Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban in Japan), Takashi Miike’s adaptation of Capcom’s courtroom videogame drama. Unlike most videogame movies, it’s supposed to be pretty good! Now, a press release has let us know that the movie’s first US screening will occur at this year’s AM2. Held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, AM2 is a free 3-day con dedicated to Asian music, anime, and manga. This year’s event runs from June 15-17.
AM2 will host two screenings of Ace Attorney, and getting into one depends on whether or not you buy an AM2 “Passport,” a premium VIP badge that gives access to several special events, such as the concerts and World Cosplay Summit. The first screening will be held exclusively for Passport holders, and a second screening will be held for the general public, but with preferred seating for Passport holders.
It looks like these screenings will be subtitled (with the characters’ English names), since no US distributor has licensed or dubbed the movie yet. I don’t care for dubbed live-action, so this exactly how I’d like to see it. I know I’ll be dropping by Anaheim that weekend, who else is joining me?
