The ’90s just won’t die, it seems. In a recent interview with distributor Park Circus about production company Morgan Creek, it was revealed that a new installment in the Ace Ventura series is currently in development. Likely to be titled Ace Ventura 3, I can’t possibly fathom who was asking for this. Do we really want to go back to a time where transphobia was a punchline?
“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise,” Morgan Creek said when asked about its future. “It’s noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamoring for a 3rd installment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories.”
While not mentioned in the interview, IGN dug up some extra details about the sequel. It seems writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller of Sonic the Hedgehog fame will be contributing to the script. That likely means Jim Carrey will also return, which should be a no-brainer to anyone familiar with the films.
Nostalgic properties have definitely been like comfort food for many people during these tough times, but I’m not sure anyone has been asking for a return of the infamous Pet Detective. The first movie hasn’t aged well in the slightest and its sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, wasn’t even well-received back in the day. What could a third entry possibly add to the legacy that is Jim Carey’s mediocre rise in the ’90s?
