When the first Anchorman film released, Adam McKay left a lot of jokes and improv scenes on the cutting room floor that were good enough to keep (some made their way to home video special features while most ended up in Wake Up Ron Burgandy, an alternate version of the film that feature of cut material), and it looks like it’s happened again. While McKay has kept the film at an hour and 53 minutes, it appears that over 250 jokes might go to waste.
But McKay doesn’t want that to happen. In an interview with Empire (where he discussed the most recent trailer), Mckay revealed his idea to possibly release two different cuts of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues with each featuring different sets of jokes. :
We did so much improv on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs. I think the editor’s working on it right now, with 250 new jokes. I think it would be really funny to put it in theatres for midnight showings.
This is the best idea. Do you know how much I’d spend for more quality Anchorman? If this doesn’t happen, then I hope for alternate home video releases at least.
