You may not know the story of Sally Menke, the longtime film editor for each and every one of Quentin Tarantino’s films. The above video is partially the beginning and partially the end.Â
See, in many of the films that Menke edited, cast and crew would end takes (especially after bloopers) by saying, “Hello Sally,” directed of course toward Menke, the editor. This had gone on for an extremely long time, with Inglourious Basterds marking the final film in this tradition — at least hypothetically. Sadly, Menke passed away in 2010 after becoming separated from friends while hiking.Â
So, let’s go ahead and say hello to Sally. And my apologies if I’ve bummed you out — you can skip right on down to the recap if you’d prefer.Â
