The entertainment world is aflame from a number of Marvel Studios Disney+ announcements at D23, but Marvel Television also reminded us who started it all. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had its own D23 panel yesterday, with the cast and crew unveiling the first trailer for the seventh and final season of the ABC show. In short, there’s time travel.
Last season’s finale had our favorite agents on the run from some rogue Chronicoms, having to escape to a totally different time period to do so. The trailer consists of an extended sequence of some Chronicoms messing with some 1930s cops, all of this culminating in one of these cops getting his face sucked out by a gun. That’s no fun.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of new footage, with a montage at the end reminding us that Phil Coulson is back as a Life Model Decoy. But given the time travel nature of this season, we’re crossing our fingers that this will also secretly double as Agent Carter season 3, given some apparent leaks and hints online from cast set photos.
Also unfortunate is the fact that we ourselves don’t have access to time travel, because despite the season having wrapped filming recently, the trailer reveals that the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t air on ABC until summer of 2020.
