The yet-untitled Alan Partridge film has been bandied around for the last decade, at times seeming deader than Tony Hayers. While I normally loathe headlines which tediously allude to the most common reference of any given work when writing about it (“The Force is with George Lucas as he gears up for Star Wars re-release”), were there ever a time for me to relax my standards, it would be to begin this post with a joyous “Aha!”
Armando Iannucci, co-creator of the character and his series (and current showrunner for HBO’s Veep), said in an interview that Partridge would finally be bouncing back in a feature due to shoot this year. The film will be directed by scary Irishman Declan Lowney (Little Britain, Father Ted), likely in beret. Steve Coogan will, of course, star, his schedule as host of Skirmish, the military-based general knowledge quiz show on digital cable channel UK Conquest that has the largest audience share for a digital channel at that time of day in the Norfolk area, permitting.
No word on whether or not the film will feature a subplot of Malcolm McDowell being pursued by a cyber-punk from the past.
