Popular sci-fi series The Expanse has been renewed by Amazon for a fifth season. The announcement was made this past weekend at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. The series, which originally started as a SyFy original series, will be returning to Amazon Prime Video for its fourth season on December 13, 2019.
While season four has yet to air, it seems Amazon has some faith that the show will do well with its new home. The fifth season will see the return of the same cast and crew and will continue to be scripted by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Naren Shankar will serve as the showrunner (much as he did with previous seasons) and the long list of executive producers will also be lending their support for this fifth season.
I’ve still not watched a single episode of The Expanse, but I’ve heard it’s well worth digging into. Fans were very upset when SyFy pulled the plug earlier this year, but Amazon is more than happy to fund the series for the foreseeable future. Whether or not season four turns out okay is up for debate, but at least the show won’t be getting killed off just yet.
