NOS4A2 is AMC’s turn at the vampire game. It’s an adaptation of the phenomenal 2013 novel by Joe Hill. While the antagonist, Charlie Manx, isn’t a vampire in the traditional Twilight sense, or even the more staunchly traditional Nosferatu sense it’s named after, he does survive on the life force of others. It’s all mildly complicated with a bad guy with one set of abilities and a good guy (girl) with another, pitted against each other in a no-hold barred, high stakes game of Scrabble (apparently).
The teaser, on the other hand, seems designed to be understood solely by people who’ve already read the book. It’s a hodgepodge of single shots barely held long enough to understand what they are if you’re not paying attention. But to those who’ve come armed with the deets from the book, you’re probably wetting yourself at all the juicy, albeit brief, tidbits they’ve just hinted at, for they’ve hinted at just about all of the major plot elements. Perhaps the biggest reveal though, is that of seeing Manx in his old man form.
It seems we’ll have to wait until summer to see how this battle between good and evil plays out. But AMC is premiering footage at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival in just a few days–expect more news soon.
