Recent box office tracking reports made worrying reading for everyone banking on the Johnny Depp/Angelina Jolie double-hander (steady) The Tourist making the bucketloads of cash its star power would suggest. According to Hollywood Reporter, the film was failing to attract much enthusiasm among tracking survey respondants and judging by their numbers, was set for a noticeably weaker opening weekend than harbinger of doom and pic-a-nics Yogi Bear.
In order to raise interest (ahem) in the film, Sony have released a set of images from the film, all of which focus on Angelina Jolie looking pouty in a variety of lavish outfits. Never mind that the problem with the film’s trailer was how it seemed to be covering up a bland story and very laboured ‘breezy’ tone by emphasizing star glamour, the studio’s marketing department have clearly decided that sex sells and they’re sticking to their guns. Is it just me or does all this reek of a desperate attempt to recapture the Audrey Hepburn/Cary Grant vibe that carried Charade (1963)?
More Jolie after the jump.
