By The Weinstein Company has just purchased the Timbur Bekmambetov-produced project Apollo 18 from a script by Brian Miller. Miller’s script won the Astana International Action Film Festival screenplay competition, and clearly, his prize is well on its way to fruition.
The film, to be shot in the god-awful “found-footage†style, actually sounds pretty cool. It centers around a fictitious, covert mission to the moon after NASA pulled funding from the official Apollo program. Aliens will be involved, of course.
I hate the found-footage style with a passion. In so many cases, it seems like just an opportunity for lazy cinematography and poor acting because, hey, they’re supposed to be, like, real people right? Just ask how much everyone loved Hud from Cloverfield. On the other hand, I am a space nut, with the race to the moon as my area of expertise, so I could be persuaded to see 60s covert tech fighting moon-men.
