Armie Hammer, half of the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network and the man that was almost Superman and Batman, has just been cast as the Lone Ranger alongside Johnny Depp’s Tonto in Gore Verbinski’s take on the iconic western hero. This follows months of speculation, during which we reported on a false rumor that Ryan Gosling had taken the role. The film will reportedly create a new dynamic for the Lone Ranger and Tonto, making them more equal than they ever had before. Unsurprising, considering Tonto is being played by one of the most famous people ever, and Armie Hammer is, well, not.
He’s definitely got that aw-shucks American look to him, so he’ll fill out the chiseled jaw of the Lone Ranger fairly well. It’s a good casting choice. This guy’s got a lot of talent, and a lot of charisma, so I hope this is the first big step towards Armie Hammer becoming a major star, or at least help give his failed Justice League movie a kick in the teeth. I wanna see him in the Batsuit!
