Well, here is a quick turn around. Usually, we have to wait years, if not decades, to get a film re-released. There’s a reason for it too, like an anniversary or some sort of celebration. Avengers: Endgame doesn’t need any of that. Kevin Feige revealed that the film will be getting a re-release with new footage next weekend. Yes, next weekend, as in not this weekend but the one after it.
“We are doing that,” Feige told ComicBook. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”
There’s really only one reason and one reason only that Marvel would do this so close to the film’s original release in April and that’s because they want the damn world record box office that Avatar still holds by $45 million or so. Ticket sales haven’t held out to get Marvel across that line despite the massive box office opening weekend so why not juice them a little? With a new re-release that contains more footage it really shouldn’t be that hard for the movie to pull in that extra bit it needs over the course of a couple weeks to finally knock Avatar off its long-held pedestal.
Who knows what this extra footage is, but considering the movie is already three hours long it’s hard to imagine it adds very much. Still, fans will pay for sure and there’s enough fans out there to make this worth their while. With digital distribution the norm it’s far less of a deal for Marvel to do this than 10 years ago.
There’s no announcement of when or how to get tickets but be on the look out for it soon.
