You know how those previous Avengers: Endgame trailers and footage have barely showed anything? Well, this “Special Look” video that runs for a full minute showed more than any of those other ones did. Not only that, but with less than a month until the film’s premiere, tickets are finally on sale—good luck trying to get yours. As of this writing, everyone in the known universe is having trouble accessing websites like AMC and Fandango. Broadway enthusiasts are getting flashbacks to getting Hamilton tickets.
For a minute-long video, this new video is quite revealing. For one, it shows that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) do indeed make it back to the Avengers base on the Guardians’ ship, the Benatar. While we did spot the two in the last trailer for Endgame, it was reasonable to be skeptical that it was all a bamboozle, given the secretive nature of the marketing campaign. And judging from the recent character posters, we’ve only seen a fraction of the characters who will show up here. Namely, we have the original six Avengers, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), fresh from her recent movie, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Rocket (the voice of Bradley Cooper), who is the sole survivor of his corner of the MCU along with Nebula.
We most notably get a brief look at Thanos (Josh Brolin), who was conspicuously missing from the previous promotional material. This special look video makes it appear as if though the plot of the movie is 1) all of the surviving Avengers and Guardians gathering together, 2) traveling to space, and 3) beating the everliving snot out of Thanos. But given the film’s rumored three-hour runtime, and with some intriguing imagery in some bits of this video, Endgame will certainly be more than that. Even if this team of pissed-off supers manage to beat Thanos in combat, there’s still the problem of everyone else being super dead.
Tony Stark and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) appear to have buried the hatchet, which should be easy considering that half the universe dying takes priority over any personal squabbles. But as they shake hands, some fans believe that the setting of that scene is in a familiar environment, leading them to believe that there are some time-travel/flashback hijinks going on. Also missing are the white suits from the latest trailer, which the Avengers are not donning as they fly in the Benatar. Generally, Marvel Studios’ trailers give away the exact sequences of plot away, but these pieces of Endgame footage are confusing as hell for those trying to figure out the movie before seeing it. And that’s cool, if you ask me.
Also, that shot of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) approaching Thanos? Hair-raising. And those new tattoos on Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)? Just awful. Who has the time to get that done while the universe is ending? Guess we’ll figure that out, and more, when Avengers: Endgame presumably fucks us up emotionally in theaters on April 26.
