By Bryan Singer confirmed today via Instagram that Let Me In star Kodi Smit-McPhee joins the All-New, All-Young X-Men Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse. This is awesome for several reasons:
- Nightcrawler is dope and Kodi Smit-McPhee looks like he’ll look pretty good in blue.
- Blink’s teleporting in X-Men: Days of Future Past was one of the coolest things I saw in 2014, and Nightcrawler will similarly be able to zip around the battlefield, which should be awesome.
- We’re in a new, divergent timeline as a result of DOFP, so the sky is the limit as to what stories they can tell with tell with Nightcrawler since they don’t need to wedge him into some sort of scenario where he’ll end up being in the place he is in X2.
The only downside I can think of is that they will have to explain that Azazel (Jason Flemyng) had sex with Jennifer Lawrence at some point before he was killed off prior to the events of DOFP, and referencing his character and the horrible wanton writing out of numerous characters really gets my goat.
All the same, I’m ready to get my BAMF! on May 27, 2016.
