It looks like Banksy is really warming up to the idea of taking home an Oscar for his hit documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop. Either that, or a loving copycat, maybe Mr. Brainwash himself, has started his own campaign to see the world famous street artist win an Academy Award for Best Documentary. LAist discovered this mural on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, a frequent haunt of Exit‘s accidental protagonist, Thierry Guetta.
The mural shows Oscar irreverently decked out in a Banksy-esque hoody (I think it’s Kid Robot), surrounded by a Imperial Stormtrooper film crew. Look closely at the base of the statue, and you will see a scrawl resembling the name Mr. Brainwash. Is this a comment on the tyranny of awards shows, which Banksy admits to disagreeing with? Or, a celebration of the spirit of the highly entertaining documentary? We’ll let you be the judge. Check out more images of the mural after the jump!
