Batman to occupy Wall Street as DKR comes to NYC

The Batman pictured above is not Christian Bale. In fact, he was a drunk, unemployed guy (who claims to never have had a real job in his whole life) who was handed out cards for the Big Apple Comic-Con right outside of the Big Apple Comic-Con. I would not be surprised if he were hanging out down at Zuccotti park.

Speaking of Occupy Wall Street, Dark Knight Rises is coming to New York City on October 29th to shoot some scenes over the course of fourteen days and may or may not be filming in the vicinity of the protestors. Obviously, the protest is a huge deal, but it may or may not have anything to do with the film. I mean, I’ve always thought of New York City as a major analogue to Gotham, so I’m pleased as punch they’ll be filming some scenes there. The Los Angeles Times puts it succinctly: “While the person who’d been told of the plans said the protests could figure into the production, they said that doesn’t mean they will be included in the storyline. In other words, Nolan, who’s known for carefully planning out scenes months in advance, wouldn’t necessarily be tweaking the script; he’d simply be using the protests as a backdrop or a stand-in for something that already exists in the film.”

Nolan doesn’t strike me as a guy who would make some last minute rewrites to be topical. Then again, he turned a Hispanic character in a luchador mask (incidentally one of my favorite characters) into Tom Hardy so I guess we’ll see how this all pans out next July.
