In a shocking announcement a few weeks back, actress Ruby Rose revealed she would be departing her role on Batwoman after the first season. While not giving a specific reason, Rose stated it was a “very difficult decision” and wished the cast and crew all the best. Instead of opting to recast the character of Kate Kane, it seems The CW is looking to outright place her for season two.
In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, The CW revealed it would be concocting a new character to take up the cape and cowl this year. No official statement was provided, but outlet Decider spotted a Reddit post about the casting change that has since been deleted. In it, the company said, “She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.”
I suppose a different Batwoman would make the show still Batwoman, but that is honestly a strange twist for the series. Then again, there’s really nothing that can be done with Rose having walked away.
