As most of you probably already know, Baz Luhrmann and Leonardo DiCaprio have already done another Shakespearean adaptation called Romeo + Juliet. With The Great Gatsby releasing tomorrow May 10th, this will be the second literary adaptation the two have done together.
At a New York premiere of The Great Gatsby on May 1, THR reported that Luhrmann wanted to tackle Hamlet next. He said, “To me, Gatsby is the American Hamlet. What else could we possibly do as a follow-up?” With regards to wanting DiCaprio to do another Shakespearean tale Luhrmann said, “It’s just a dream at this point.”
It might be just me in that I really just dislike everything Luhrmann touches, but I am not hopeful for what probably would be Hamlet in modern times with dubstep playing every every so often. If this turns out to be correct, I claim the idea first Luhrmann!
