By The Current War is, incongruously, an upcoming historical film based on the rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. The script, written by Michael Mitnick, made the 2011 Black List, and it has now been acquired by Bazelevs, the production company of director Timur Bekmambetov.
Bekmambetov, who directed Wanted and this summer‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will direct War, conjuring immediate thoughts of Thomas Edison curving bullets using primitive, gargantuan electrical devices, live sparks emitting forthwith.
It remains to be seen where the film falls between intelligent retelling of yesteryear and bombastic David-Bowie-as-Tesla caricature.
