Even though I really didn’t like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I’ll admit that Ben Affleck did a decent job as Bruce Wayne/Batman in spite of the material he was working with. There’s been talk that Affleck is working with comics writer and producer Geoff Johns on a solo Batman movie that Affleck would most likely direct.
According to an interview with Affleck’s agents Patrick Whitesell and Ari Emanuel, Affleck has written his own screenplay for a solo Batman movie. Details are scant beyond that.
A solo Batman movie would certainly bring more money in than an Aquaman movie, but there are a few complications. As of now, Warner Bros has 9 more DC movies scheduled through 2020:
- 2016: Suicide Squad
- 2017: Wonder Woman
- 2017: Justice League Part One
- 2018 The Flash
- 2018: Aquaman
- 2019: Shazam
- 2019: Justice League Part Two
- 2020: Cyborg
- 2020: Green Lantern Corps
With a packed slate, it’s difficult to find room for a solo Batman film in the field. In addition, Affleck’s contract to play Batman is currently up once the two Justice League movies are completed. Contracts can be adjusted, but now it’s a matter of timing.
How do you feel about a solo Batman movie with Ben Affleck as writer, director, and star? Let us know in the comments.
