I don’t think we’ve mentioned it yet, but there are currently two competing versions of the Jungle Book in the works. One is produced by Disney (which just cast their Mowgli) releasing 2015, and the other Warner Bros, which will be directed by Andy Serkis releasing in 2016. This film, titled Jungle Book: Origins, now adds Benedict Cumberbatch as he now seems like he’s up for just about any film these days.
He’ll be playing Shere Khan, and as THR can’t confirm if he’ll be performing motion capture for the role, I’m sure he’ll be a fine kitty cat. Jungle Book: Origins has the worst title, but will open October 21, 2016.
