Ok, you ready? It’s old news that George Lucas is, after the Star Wars TV series is more or less rolling on its own, planning on re-releasing/re-re-releasing the six Star Wars movies in 3D. This isn’t a good idea for a lot of reasons, but it’s important to note it as fact.
However, IESB is reporting Lucas’ plans for a third Star Wars trilogy, to be set many, many years after the original trilogy, and it will no longer feature the Skywalkers. And it will be in 3D. The idea is that, with the huge amounts of cash Lucasfilm will earn with the original/prequel trilogy’s re-release, he’ll have enough money to do basically anything he wants to. With the 3D trilogies to release between 2015 and 2016, we’d see the first of a new line of Star Wars movies around 24 months after Return of the Jedi 3D.

This is super big. It’s also a rumor, but, as IESB itself points out, they broke the stories of The Avengers being directed by Joss Whedon and Revenge of the Sith’s PG-13 rating. They do seem to have very solid sources, but it is, after all, only a rumor. Keep this one in your hats, though.
