Black Widow’s Director says film sets up new female lead in the MCU

0

After seeing one of the most kick-ass women in the MCU bite the dust in Avengers: Endgame, fans have been looking for closure. It seems we are about to get that closure in the upcoming standalone Black Widow film. The film’s director, Cate Shortland, confirmed in a recent interview that not only will fans get Widow’s backstory, but the stage is set for a new female MCU lead.

The next lady assassin will be Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova.  Pugh’s superhero has effectively been passed the torch to carry on, at least according to star Scarlett Johansson. Black Widow will introduce the world to Belova and also effectively launch her storyline.

Black Widow was, of course, postponed due to COVID-19 and is now set to hit theaters on November 6. Pugh’s performance in the film exceeded Shortland’s expectations, something that audiences will no doubt feel the same. Besides fans of Black Widow getting to see her one last time on the big screen, I for one am excited for a new female in the MCU.  Pugh is an amazing actress as if her performance in Little Women wasn’t indication enough!

Marvel fans are hungry for new content and November can’t get here soon enough.
