First Los Angeles takes the Chargers from San Diego, now through the help of the new movie Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles will actually annex a portion of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter and transport it into the future. Alright so it won’t actually but through the magic of VR and free swag it will certainly feel that way.
Taking place during San Diego Comic-Con and sponsored by Johnnie Walker, the Blade Runner 2049 Experience will aim to truly make you feel like you are walking in a world of replicants through the use of real world props, actors, and virtual reality. The experience will all begin with a reality palette cleanser of sorts through the use of an Oculus VR presentation, after which you are allowed to enter the world of Los Angeles circa 2049. There you will find the actual Spinner from the new movie as well as randomized tests to determine whether you may live as a human, or must die as a replicant.
While you aren’t avoiding blade runners you will also be able to win swag and mingle among the actors wearing costumes based on the new movie. Johnnie Walker jumping on a great opportunity thanks to their presence in the original film will also be there to show off a new bottle that they will sell in conjunction with the movie later this year. There will also be free booze but unfortunately it will be Johnnie Walker, so I guess the old saying “never look a gift horse in the mouth” applies here.
The experience will run during San Diego Comic-Con from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday; and 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sunday. You can register to enter at a specific time or choose to wait in line, but appointments can only be made for the same day. Admission to the event will be free, unless you’re a replicant then it will cost you your life, if you can even say that a replicant has life.
Blade Runner 2049 will open in theaters on October 6th of this year and will star Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford and will directed by Denis Villeneuve.
