On the 50th anniversary of Sean Connery being announced to play James Bond in Dr No, the title and cast of the British superspy’s twenty-third adventure have been revealed: Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem as the villain, Bérénice Marlohe as ‘Severin’, Naomie Harris as Eve (a field agent, who sounds as though she will be kicking much arse – hooray!), plus Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.
A few plot details were teased as well. The story will be unrelated to evil organisation QUANTUM, and will see M’s past come back to haunt her in a manner that will send Bond to Shanghai, Istanbul and the furthest reaches of… Scotland in order to save the day. Despite rumours to the contrary, there will be copious quantities of action. The names of certain characters were not revealed, for fears that ‘fans might recognise them’. Sploosh.
Sure, the title’s a bit videogamey (maybe it shouldn’t have been revealed so close to Skyrim being released), but look at that cast. JUST LOOK AT IT, THEN FINGER YOURSELF QUIETLY. Bardem’s going to be a villain, Harris gets a role her awesomeness deserves, and Ralph Fiennes! With shooting set to start today, Bond 23 will be out in roughly a year’s time. Expect me to not stop going on about it until then. The movie’s logo follows the jump.
