No surprises here. Bolstered by strong word of mouth and increased revenue thanks to IMAX 3D, Gravity took the top slot at the box office for the second week in a row. The film took in more than $44 million in its second week, which means a dip of only $11 million from its opening weekend. So much for standard attrition.
Debuting at a strong #2 was Captain Phillips, the latest from Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks. The movie should do solid numbers through the rest of the month, and may be propelled by the awards buzz over Tom Hanks’ performance. Machete Kills unfortunately came in fourth place, bringing in a disappointing $3.79 million.
After the cut, your full domestic box office top ten.
