It’s January folks. That means it’s time to play catch up on all the movies you missed out on last year (I finally saw Gravity last weekend and I liked it alright) because there’s absolutely nothing of value until February 7th when The LEGO Movie and The Monuments Men release.
What’s sad is Ride Along made enough money to become the biggest January opening of all time with $41 million mazoolas. On MLK weekend, a film where Kevin Hart exploits race comedy made a ton of money. There’s a bad joke in there somewhere. Other releases like The Nut Job (that came out already?) and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit sit firmly in the middle. Sorry, I think I’m just going to sit in this corner and obnoxiously sigh until January is over.
You’ll find the box office performances for the Jan 17-19 weekend after the cut.
