By Despite a strong showing on Friday from Prometheus, Madagascar 3 ultimately outsold the sci-fi film this weekend. While I haven’t seen Prometheus (or any of the Aliens films, for that matter (more coming soon on that)), the Twittersphere was up in arms over the weekend with fans and dissenters attacked and defended the film. I’ll withhold judgment until I see it.
More importantly, Wes Anderson’s latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, made a surprise appearance in this weekend’s Top 10. While only making $1.5m, it was only screening in 96 theaters. That’s remarkable! The rest of this weekend’s box office numbers are below.
