Cabin in the Woods writer Drew Goddard on Cloverfield 2

With The Cabin in the Woods set to kick off SXSW this Friday, news is swirling around about everybody involved with the project. The film’s co-writer, Drew Goddard, also worked on the polarizing found-footage film, Cloverfield. Shock Till You Drop was able to get in touch with Goddard and asked him about the possibilities of a Cloverfield sequel.

Goddard responded, “I’m in, I’m ready to do it. […] Someone call J.J. and tell him to get moving, but because Matt and J.J. and I have been fortunate enough to be busy, it’s hard syncing our schedules up. We’re all very passionate about returning to that world. […] If you asked each of us what we wanted to do, you’ll get three different answers, which is how the first film was.  The aesthetic of Cloverfield benefits from that.  Three voices pulling it.  Look, nothing would make me happier than to get the three of us in the room to get started.”

Of course, with J.J. Abrams working on the Star Trek sequel, Cloverfield 2 – Son of Cloverfield: Electric Boogaloo might be a ways off. Still, being a fan of the original, I can’t wait to hear more about the sequel’s potential. Allistair and I will attempt to get more out of Goddard this week while we’re at SXSW.
