World’s prettiest and most talented Denny’s waitress Carey Mulligan is keeping herself busy. She apparently has a role in the new Coen brothers movie and is in talks for the new Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman movie. Mulligan is currently playing that elusive green light Daisy in Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby, which is filming in Australia. (Read that sentence over again. Only half of it makes any sense.)
The Coen brothers’s new project, Inside Llewyn Davis, will focus on the folk scene in 1960s New York City and will be based on the life of Dave van Ronk. Oscar Isaac is the only other actor confirmed for that film. It’s very likely that the movie (which won’t be out for a while) will shoot around Greenwich Village, in which case I might be schleping to the city to write more often.
As for the return of the Jonze/Kaufman team, details are scant. The as-yet untitled film will be a political satire about world leaders who meet to decide the fate of the planet, including oil prices and how wars will be waged. That’s probably just scratching the surface, though. Joaquin Phoenix has the lead in that one.
