My Idiot Brother’s
Jesse Peretz. The film actually looks surprisingly interesting. It follows a gay teen trying to come out of the closet in the 80s. His super-liberal parents decide to celebrate his sexuality, while the boy would rather deal with it by himself. Keener and Malkovich would be playing the parents in question.
These are two actors that work best when they get to play around with an off-kilter character, so this is a pretty cool casting choice. The plot also sounds like some interesting, reasonably-untread ground. With the 1980s being a more uncertain time for homosexuals, there’s a lot of good stuff to be mined here.
