Charlie Kaufman’s Frank or Francis delayed indefinitely

Bad news for Charlie Kaufman fans. His musical send-up of filmmakers and film blogging, Frank or Francis, has fallen apart according to Elizabeth Banks. Banks was one of many stars attached to the project, including Steve Carell, Jack Black, Catherine Keener, Paul Reubens, Kevin Kline, and Nicolas Cage. She told Moviefone:

We didn’t get to shoot that movie. It was ready to go, and, as many movies do, it fell apart at the last minute…I really want to work with Charlie Kaufman, I would do anything with him. I really hope it comes together.

First Showing says the film’s not dead, but just delayed for an indefinite amount of time (aka pining for the fjords). It’s unfortunate news since I was really looking forward to a new film directed by Kaufman (I’m among the rare breed of miserable bastard who loved Synecdoche, New York). In the meantime, Kaufman’s keeping himself busy working on his first novel as well as an adaptation of Chaos Walking for Lionsgate.

Like Kaufman said during his BAFTA “Screenwriters on Screenwriting” lecture: “Let’s not worry about failure. Failure is a badge of honor; it means you risked failure. If you don’t risk failure you’re never going to do anything that’s different than what you’ve already done, or what somebody else has done.” Try again, fail again, fail better.
