Chris Evans turned down Captain America role three times

“Look at Channing Tatum on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in that picture. Man, he’s so dreamy. Wait, what? That’s Chris Evans? Wow.” That’s exactly what I thought last week when we posted the pictures from the new EW article. It certainly didn’t look like Chris Evans, and it left me wondering if he was trying to break free from his typical comic relief role (Sunshine shows he’s capable of it). Then I read this:

“First, and most interesting, is the fact that the film’s lead Chris Evans didn’t want the role and at first Marvel didn’t want him either.”

Ah, now it makes sense. I’m all for actors expanding their careers by taking chances, but if a lack of confidence is enough to rob countless men of dates around the country each week, then that single quote is enough to threaten the millions of dollars invested into this project so far. Evans went on to admit that “I’ve made some spotty films and I didn’t want another one on this scale,” and was also openly hesitant about signing on for nine — yes nine — movies. Once they bumped his contract down to just six films he eventually…
