Chalk this one up as a big, Bat-Signaled “maybe,” but sources are reporting that Christian Bale is potentially in talks for a role in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.
Variety reports that Bale is circling a role in Taika Waititi’s Ragnarok follow-up, the fourth Thor film which looks to introduce a major shake-up to the Asgardian formula. With Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster taking up the heavy handle of Mjolnir, Thor’s tremendous hammer, the MCU would seem to be setting up its future with new characters and returnees like Portman to take up new and critical roles in the never-ending Marvel saga.
Who Bale would play remains a mystery, though Variety speculates that Cul, Thor’s uncle and the God of Fear, might be a candidate. In Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor, Foster battles Cul in epic, multi-colored combat, which would make such a showdown in Love and Thunder seem likely.
Whether or not that cosmic quarrel comes to pass and if Bale joins the fray is all subject to speculation. Though the prospect of a talent like Bale suiting up for another major franchise film is certainly something to take note of.
