Christopher Nolan exec producing Wally Pfister thriller

Wally Pfister is the cinematographer behind all Christopher Nolan’s work since Memento, having finally won an Academy Award for his outstanding work on Inception in 2010, following nominations for Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight. Nolan is now set to return the favour by acting as executive producer, along with wife Emma Thomas, on Pfister’s impending directorial debut, an unnamed thriller for Alcon Entertainment, who also produced Insomnia.

Details on the film are still light on the ground, but Jack Paglen (known for 2007 Black Lister Joy) is behind the screenplay and production will start later this year. Pfister’s previous directorial experience is limited to a handful of commercials, although having been allied to one of the industry’s most accomplished directors for the past twelve years, I’d say Alcon have made a savvy choice in giving him the helm. Nolan and Thomas called the project ‘original and exciting’ in a press release, and that’s good enough for me.
