Cloverfield’s an alright movie. It may have used its mad necromancy to breathe life into the necrotic corpse of the found footage movie, so it’s only slightly evil. It’s a giant monster stomping through New York City. Lizzie Caplan’s head explodes. What more do you want, man?
In January, Andres reported that Cloverfield 2 was a possibility, but still quite some ways off. In an interview with Total Film, director Matt Reeves expressed the notion that the film is happening. He said, “Well, you are going to see it – we just don’t know when…At the moment we are talking about the story quite a lot. Drew Goddard, who wrote the original, is going to pen the sequel, and J.J. Abrams is very much involved.”
So there it is. Cloverfield 2 is going to happen, which isn’t surprising considering the success of the original. Reeves is mum on details of the film, including whether or not it will shoot in real time or if it will even use the same monster, which we’re told is still alive after the catastrophic events of Cloverfield.
Thoughts? Hate mail for Matt Reeves? Favorite ‘splodey heads in movies?
