The original stoner duo is going to be making a comeback soon. In an announcement made yesterday, Comedy Central revealed that it will be reviving MTV’s Beavis and Butt-Head for two new seasons soon. Collaborating with series creator Mike Judge, the network even secured the rights to spin-offs and specials in case their reappearance proves popular.
Chris McCarthy, president of ViacomCBS’ entertainment and youth group, said, “We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central. Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”
The news is especially interesting as Comedy Central recently secured the rights for Daria spin-off Jodie. Daria was a spin-off of Beavis and Butt-Head, so it seems like Comedy Central could be making some moves to create a stoner cinematic universe…or I’m just being an idiot.
Whatever happens, it’s nice to see the dimwitted duo return after 10 years. The single reason revival back in 2011 was on-point, so I have no doubt that these newer seasons will also be as ludicrous and aimless as the original show.
