Earlier in the month we reported that Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master may be coming out in October. We can now confirm that rumor was true; you may commence dancing. The Master has an official limited release date of October 12th. It will then expand to other cities across the country, much like alien souls that have been brainwashed by Xenu.
The Master, if you don’t know already, is set in the 1950s and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a charismatic huckster who starts his own religion. There’s been some controversy about the film since the Hoffman character is said to be very similar to L. Ron Hubbard, who founded the Church of Scientology. Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Laura Dern also star.
Many of us here are looking forward to The Master, which made our list of the most anticipated films of 2012. I’m also looking forward to what Anderson does next. An adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice has been rumored, with Robert Downey, Jr. as the stoned private eye Doc Sportello.
