According to an interview with Digital Spy, Roland Emmerich said he and Big Willie Style are “back in talks” for Smith to return for the upcoming sequel to Independence Day:
I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn’t want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again. Anything can happen.
Although it’s too soon to be more than wishful thinking (as Emmerich stated the film probably won’t meet its 2015 window and a 2016 release is more likely), I don’t see why Will Smith couldn’t return for ID 2 (now titled ID Forever: Part One for some reason). Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are confirmed to return, and the rumor mill has been stating that Will Smith has wanted to reinvigorate his other franchises like Hancock and Men in Black. Soooo…who knows? Should we even want the Fresh Prince back? Or should he go back to rapping since his last single (“Switch”) was like twelve years ago.
