La La Land is bound to be a major player during the awards season, but director Damien Chazelle and the film’s co-star Ryan Gosling are already eyeing their next project together. The duo will work on First Man in 2017, a biopic on astronaut Neil Armstrong. Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. Moon landing conspiracy theorists are already scoffing.
First Man is an adaptation of the James R. Hansen’s biography First Man: The Life Of Neil A. Armstrong. The screenplay is from Josh Singer, who co-wrote Spotlight. As The Playlist notes, this is the first film Chazelle will direct that he hasn’t written himself.
I’m pretty sure First Man is a prequel to a whole bunch of other movies. This includes Carol Reed’s The Third Man, Paul Verhoeven’s The Fourth Man, Sam Raimi’s Darkman, and Robert Townsend’s The Meteor Man. I could be wrong, though.
