Those of you missing the brooding nature of Daredevil and its heavy-handed Catholic imagery can take solace in some newly-released stills of the third season. Recently receiving a new trailer and release date, this street-level superhero show will depict Matt Murdock essentially “reborn” as Daredevil after his presumed death in The Defenders.
In an interview with EW, new showrunner Erik Oleson describes a surviving Daredevil going to a dark place, and completely abandoning his life as attorney Matt Murdock to fight crime. New images show Murdock (Charlie Cox) donning his old black suit again, and at some point, meeting up with his former law partner and friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson)—it doesn’t look like a happy reunion.
Marvel Television head and Kevin Feige-wannabe Jeph Loeb had his own interview with EW—Loeb discussed the fact that Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg will leave the show after its third season, and reiterates that there are no plans for a second coming of The Defenders as of yet.
This year’s offerings of Netflix-Marvel has been a mixed bag, with the second seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all being just-okay in my book—all having good ideas, with some missteps on the way. Here’s hoping that this new season of Daredevil will recapture some of this show lineup’s former glory.
