Mother!, the new Darren Aronofsky movie, is veiled in secrecy. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, and details about the plot are scant. A disturbing poster for the film came out in May, and there was an effective all-audio teaser that screened with Dunkirk. Now we have our first look at Mother! in this brief teaser, and it looks really intense.
Check out the Mother! teaser below.
Like any good teaser, this gave a taste of the film’s tone without revealing much of anything. And thankfully there were no slow, brooding cover songs used like in other trailers. (Five bucks says some hack trailer house somewhere has a melancholy version of Danzig’s “Mother” just waiting to go over this imagery.)
There have been rumors that Mother! is about a cult or something to that effect, though there’s also an air of a home invasion picture and something that seems vaguely supernatural. I guess we’ll see soon enough.
Here’s the official synopsis for Mother!:
A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.
Oh, so it’s mother! with a lower case “m”. Well, gosh, I don’t know what to do with my life now.
A full trailer for the film will be out next week, which we’ll obviously share here as soon as it’s available. Mothe— Excuse me. mother! comes out September 15th.
