David Fincher to go down for Disney

Here at Flixist, we’re big fans of David Fincher. His latest, The Social Network, a little film about some stupid website that I’ve never even heard of, has been sweeping the awards circuits, and it’s fairly evident that it’s going to pick up for than a few Oscar nominations. Fincher’s next film is a remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Normally, I’d say an American remake of a foreign film that’s been released on Blu-ray/DVD less than a year ago is something to decry. That said, well, it’s David Fincher. I’m willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt.

Now, Disney has confirmed that Fincher’s project after Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be yet another remake, this time of the classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with a screenplay from Scott Z. Burns, writer of The Informant! and The Bourne Identity. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m super excited. I’ve wanted to see Fincher tackle some big sci-fi stuff since he was attached to a Rendezvous with Ramaadaptation, which may or may not still be happening. The man is one of the more talented directors of our time,…

Also, c’mon, who doesn’t want to see a Fincher-directed battle with a giant squid?
