Disney may be close to acquiring 21st Century Fox and its film and television properties, but that isn’t stopping Fox from kicking off some other hackneyed X-Men projects. Per THR, Deadpool director Tim Miller and comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis, creator of characters like Miles Morales and Jessica Jones, will act as director and screenwriter of the project codenamed “143“.
That number refers to Uncanny X-Men No. 143, an issue that focused on a solo adventure starring Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat. With the abilities to phase through solid objects, Pryde is one of the most beloved X-Men characters, particularly being a favorite of writer Joss Whedon. Ellen Page portrayed the character in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
While Logan was a creative and artistic triumph, other proposed solo film projects have had less luck. A Gambit film project starring Channing Tatum has had multiple directors leave, with production being delayed several times. Additionally, a Multiple Man movie was reported to be in the works, starring James Franco, but who knows where any of these projects will end up with the impending sale of 21st Century Fox, and the possible inclusion of the X-Men into Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Miller is also attached to a live-action/CG Sonic the Hedgehog film, so needless to say, his career has been pretty damn weird since he left Deadpool 2.
