Del Toro: Prometheus is the end of Mountains of Madness

0

Well, this is a nice and depressing note to start the week on. In a post on his own message boards, Guillermo Del Toro said, quite refreshingly frankly, that the upcoming Prometheus, a film probably every member of the Flixist staff is creaming their jeans over on an hourly basis, is essentially the final nails in the coffin of his own adaptation of In the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft. His rationale may prove to be mostly speculation, but there’s sound logic going into it. Without spoiling too terribly much, Del Toro reasons that, as the Alien series pulls a lot of influence from Lovecraftian mythos, given the implications of the title Prometheus, there could very possibly be incredibly stark similarities to Mountains of Madness. Again, in the interest of making sure I don’t spoil Prometheus, there are certain revelations made at the end of Mountains of Madness that could possibly correlate to Prometheus, if some of the rumors I’ve read of the plot are true.

While it still stings to see a legit adaptation of one of Lovecraft’s best stories from one of film’s biggest Lovecraft fans, at least the film that’s making it not possible is shaping up to be one of the best of the summer.
