I actually came out of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey really enjoying it, but I do admit it had its flaws. One of which was that it felt really stretched over a thin plot. I don’t think the second film, The Desolation of Smaug, is going to have that issue. It looks like the combination of the original story and the prequel to The Lord of the Rings aspects will find a nice balance here.
Of course the trailer is also geared towards those people who may have lost taste in the franchise by heavily featuring Legolas. Remember him? You liked him before now like him again! Clearly action is also being pushed, with plenty of elves ninja attacking their way through the trailer. The most important thing though is that there is a heavy focus on Bilbo and Smaug, which could be a fantastic showdown as long as it’s done right, which it will be because Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing Smaug and he does nothing wrong. Ever.
We’ve also got five new banner thingies from Warner Bros. to stare at if you’d like.
